The number of 3G base stations deployed across China in 2009 totaled 325,000 as of year-end 2009, with 3G network coverage including 342 prefecture-level cities, 2,055 county-level cities, and 6,000 townships, the Xinhua News reported on October 6. In addition, as of year-end 2009, the number of 3G users in China reached 13.25 million units, 5.51 million of which were TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) users. Meanwhile, the total length of the fiber-optic cables deployed in China was 8,267,000km in 2009, 837,000 km of which was long-distance fiber-optic cables, according to the same source.
